Recanalization of the fallopian tubes is a procedure undertaken to reverse a tubectomy where a portion of tubes have been excised.
Pre Procedure:
Consent of both husband and wife after proper counselling is essential
Husband’s semen analysis should be within normal limits.
Other obvious causes of female infertility should be ruled out.
Procedure:
Can be done by open method or by laparoscopy.
Usually diagnostic laparoscopy is performed first, to ensure that sufficient lengths of the cut ends of the tubes are present before proceeding with the main procedure.
Success rates vary from 30% to 60% with most pregnancies occurring in the first year after the procedure.
